Problem Solving Definition

Problem solving is a mental and intellectual process of finding and solving problems based on data and information that is accurate, so it can be concluded that proper and thorough (Hamalik, 1994:151). Problem solving is an approach to problem identifikation to ketahap syntesis then analyzed the sorting of the whole issue so as to achieve hereinafter komprehension application stage to get a solution in solving the problem.

Another opinion is a problem solving approach in which the subsequent steps until the final settlement is more common quantitative whereas the subsequent steps until the end pengelesain more quantitative and specific

This means oreantasi learning problem solving and discovery are infestigasi which basically solving nasalah. If solvingng expected not work out as desired meaning has occurred in the early stages so that each engineer must start again from scratch thinking is problematic to gain a thorough understanding of the issues being addressed.

Thus, in studying the mathematical concepts that new concepts should be based on the previous one. Learn the concepts that underlie the concept of B of A, one must first understand the concept A person may not understand the concept of B. This means that math should be gradual, and associated with a single concept with other concepts.

Thinking to solve problems and produce something new is a complex activity and is closely related to one another. A problem generally can not be solved without thinking, and many problems require new solutions for people or groups. Conversely, to produce something (objects, ideas) that is new to someone, create something, it covers problems solving. This means information facts and concepts is not important. As we have seen, the mastery of the information is necessary to obtain the concept, both of whom it must be remembered and considered in problem solving and creative action. Similarly, intellectual development is very important in problem solving (Slameto, 1990: 139)

The next level of problem solving is to be solved by understanding the amount of knowledge and work skills and is the result achieved after the individual concerned individuals experiencing a process of learning problem solving is taught a certain pengetahua.

So, what is meant by problem solving in this study is the result of a problem that gave birth to a lot of answers that result from research that results in realistic conclusions in problem solving models of mathematics. (Lawson, 1991:53)

2. Step-by-Step Problem Solving

Writers need to use an approach that consists of three steps to problem solving, thus the concept of problem solving is not theory alone, but it has proven its success.
The three-step problem solving are:

a. Identify the problem correctly
Conceptually a problem (M) is defined as the gap or the gap between actual and targetkinerja Nerja (T) is expected, so that symbolically can be written simultaneously; M = T - A.berdasarkan concept of a professional problem solver must first Nanpu know how or the degree to which actual performance today, and how many or which level of performance as well as we should be able to define clearly what the main problem we are then set at a level where we are now and the actual performance when it's time achievement of performance targets.

b. Determine the source and root of the problem penybab
An effective solution to the problem, if we managed to find the sources and roots of the problem, then take action to eliminate these problems.

c. Solution to the problem effectively and efficiently.
The steps of effective problem resolution and efficient are:
  1. Defining a written
  2. Building a causal diagram is modified to define: a) the root cause of the problem, b) the causes that can not be controlled, but can be estimated
  3. Each root cause of the problem dimasuskkan into a causal diagram. while the causes that can not be predicted, it registered on the separate causal
  4. Definition action or effective solutions through attention to and consider: a) the prevention of recur or reappear causes it, b) there must be action taken under our control, and c) meet the objectives and performance targets set.
  5. Applying or implementing or actions proposed (Vincent Gasper sz, and Qruztyann.blogs.friendster. Com)

As for other steps that according to Dewey's concept of a thought that became the basis for problem solving are as follows:
  1. The existence of the perceived difficulty or awareness of the problem.
  2. The matter was clarified and restricted.
  3. Looking for information or data and then the data is organized or classified.
  4. Looking for relations to formulate hypotheses and hypotheses evaluated, tested to be determined to be accepted or rejected.
  5. Application of solutions to the problems faced as well as testing the truth applies these solutions to be able to come to conclusions.

Apart from the above according to the Dewey steps in problem solving is as follows: awareness of the problem, formulate problems, find the data and formulate hypotheses and then receive the correct hypothesis. But the problem solving that does not always follow an orderly sequence, but can jump-jump between various lankah, the more so when people try to solve the problem complex. For example: the problems of education have been known many years ago, and many hypotheses have been formulated and tested solutions. However, people are still trying merunuskan the problems more accurately and workmanship mengusahan other problem-solving in order to find a better solution.

The method of problem solving is emphasized on the discovery and problem solving on an ongoing basis. "Overload method encourages students to think scientifically, practical, intuitive and works on the basis of its own initiatives, grow the objective attitude, honest and open. While the weakness requires a long time, not all subject matter contained problems requiring regular planning and mature, and ineffective if there are some students who are passive.

While Kenedy as quoted by Lovitt (1989: 279) suggests a four step process of solving mathematical problems with:
  1. Understanding the problem
  2. Problem-solving plan
  3. Implement problem-solving, and
  4. Re-examine

For children berkesulitan learning and even for children who do not berkesulitan learn , solve problems is not an easy job. In addition, children are also trained to solve math problems more systematically. Therefore, problem-solving approach by utilizing props with the steps that have been put forward it seems better to use for both children berkesulitan learn or not berkesulitan learn . problem solving
